Wild Play is a brilliant day out for children aged 8 to 12 who love being outdoors and getting stuck into nature. Set up camp in the woods at TCV Skelton Grange and spend the day exploring, building, and playing in a natural environment. Activities change with the seasons, so your child might be foraging, building shelters, creating things from natural materials, or just having a proper adventure in the trees. It's the kind of day where kids come home muddy, tired, and buzzing about what they've discovered.

The sessions are led by experienced staff who know how to keep children engaged and safe in a woodland setting. Your child doesn't need any special outdoor skills to join in, just a willingness to get messy and try things.

What to bring

Waterproof jacket and trousers (even if the forecast looks dry, the undergrowth is often damp)
Warm layers and a hat, as it'll be cooler in the woods than in the open
Sturdy, closed-toe walking boots or trainers with good grip
A packed lunch and plenty of water in a refillable bottle
Sun cream and insect repellent
A change of clothes and a plastic bag for wet or muddy items

Top tips

Dress your child in clothes they don't mind getting filthy. This is woodland exploration, not a park visit.
Pack more food than you think they'll need. Being active in fresh air builds appetite quickly.
Bring a fully charged portable phone charger if staff need to contact you, and make sure your child knows your contact details.
Arrive a few minutes early so your child can settle in before activities start. First arrivals often help set up camp, which gets them engaged from the off.
Check the weather the night before and add extra waterproofs if rain is forecast. Sessions run in light rain, and staying dry makes a huge difference to enjoyment.
