Spring Trail and Farm Open Day

Kirkstall Valley Farm

Date

18 Apr

Ages

All ages

Price

£££

Join Kirkstall Valley Development Trust for a spring open day at their working farm in Leeds. This is a lovely chance to get the children outdoors and moving around the grounds while discovering where the farm's resident chickens have made their homes.

The trail is designed to be relaxed and family-friendly, so there's no pressure to rush through. You can wander at your own pace, which works well with little ones who like to stop and look at things. Spring is a particularly nice time to visit a farm as there's usually plenty of new growth and activity to spot. Whether your children are into animals, nature, or just fancy some fresh air away from screens, this open day offers a good mix of outdoor exploration and farm life.

What’s Included in Your Entry:

🌼 Entry to the farm

🌼 The chicken trail

🌼 Spring craft activities

🌼 Outdoor play

🌼 A farm tour with one of our growers at 11am (optional)

Enjoy a fun, family-friendly spring day on the farm while helping us raise vital funds to support our work on the farm and with children and families. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Facilities

There Is Currently No Disabled Access Or Baby Changing Facilities At The Farm. Drinking Water Is Available But We Ask That You Bring Your Own Water Bottles.

What to bring

  • Waterproof jackets and wellies - it's April in Leeds, so wet grass and muddy patches are very likely
  • A small backpack with snacks and a water bottle to keep energy levels up during the walk
  • Hand wipes or a small hand sanitiser for cleaning up after touching animals or soil
  • A camera or phone to photograph any animals or plants the children spot
  • Sun cream and hats in case the weather turns sunny, as there may be limited shade on open farmland

Top tips

  • Arrive early in the day if possible, as open farm events can get busier mid-morning and parking may become tight
  • Bring a small notebook so children can tick off what they find on the trail - it keeps them engaged and gives them a sense of mission
  • Wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy and dress children in layers, as the weather can change quickly in spring
  • Check the farm's social media or ring ahead just before you go to confirm the event is running as planned, especially if the weather has been very wet
