About this place
Newgate Nature Reserve is a rewilded former refuse tip on the edge of Wilmslow, and it's a genuinely lovely spot for a quiet walk away from the crowds. Wide grassland paths wind through the site, and the whole place is well kept and maintained throughout the year.
The real highlight for nature lovers is the wildflower meadows, which support colonies of Southern Marsh orchids in May and Broad Leaved Helleborine in July. It's peaceful and not overly busy, which makes it a nice change from more popular parks in the area.
It suits families, dog walkers, joggers, and anyone after a gentle Sunday afternoon stroll. Do bear in mind that it can get muddy in places, so wellies are a sensible choice, especially after wet weather. The entry road to the reserve is single track, so take it steady on the way in.

Parking tip
Parking is minimal here, so come prepared. The access road is single track, which can be tight, and one visitor noted there's no car park at all. If you do find a spot, it'll be roadside rather than a dedicated facility.
