About this place
Lightoaks Park Children's Play Area sits within one of Salford's larger parks, which has been a community favourite since it officially opened in 1925. The play area caters to a good range of ages, with different equipment to suit younger children and older ones alike, including a massive slide that the bigger kids tend to make a beeline for. There is also a zip wire, swings, and plenty of open space to run around, ride bikes, or scoot about.
The park itself adds a lot to a visit. There is a duck pond, resident squirrels, and walking routes, so it is easy to make a full afternoon of it. Seating, picnic benches, and dedicated spots to leave scooters and bikes are all on hand, and the Tea'osk, a volunteer-run café right next to the play area, is known for being very good value.
The play area has wheelchair-accessible access and is open 24 hours a day, every day. It is generally well maintained and kept clean, and an active friends group regularly helps put on community fun days and activities throughout the year.
