Brookside Miniature Railway is a charming heritage railway experience set within a working garden centre in Poynton. Families board beautifully maintained miniature trains for scenic rides around the grounds, where there's plenty to spot along the way including a fairy garden, whimsical gnome displays, and seasonally decorated areas that change throughout the year.

The rides last around 10 minutes and cost just £2.50 per person, making it excellent value for a family outing. It works well for children aged 2 and up, and the friendly staff help create a welcoming atmosphere. The venue is part of a larger garden centre complex, so you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring the wider site, browsing the shops, and grabbing refreshments at the café.

What to bring

  • Camera or phone to capture the decorative areas, fairy garden and gnome displays along the route

Top tips

  • Arrive during quieter weekday sessions if possible to avoid queues and get seats closer to the front of the train
  • Check what seasonal decorations are on display before you visit, as the fairy garden and themed areas change throughout the year
  • Allow extra time to explore the wider garden centre after your train ride, including the model shop and fish section
  • Rides take about 10 minutes, so factor this into your visit planning alongside time to browse the garden centre
  • Chat with the train crew (including Dave the conductor, who features in reviews) as they're genuinely friendly and add to the experience
