Moth Morning is a free-to-attend outdoor event run by Butterfly Conservation at Temple Newsam in Leeds, taking place on Saturday 25th July from 8am to 10am. It is part of the Leeds Wild Spaces Project, a collaboration between Butterfly Conservation and Leeds City Council that has established a one-hectare wildflower meadow right here on the estate.
The main attraction is moth trapping, where a safe light and box are left out overnight to draw moths in. When you arrive in the morning, you get to see the moths up close before they are carefully released back into the wild. It is a rare chance to see species you would not normally come across, and there will be people on hand to help you identify what you are looking at.
The event starts early on purpose, so the moths can be released before the day warms up too much. Do bear in mind it is weather dependent, for the welfare of the moths.
The exact meeting point within Temple Newsam will be sent to you by email on the day, so keep an eye on your inbox. It is suitable for all ages and abilities, so bring the whole family along.
To book, you will need the access code WILDSPACES on Eventbrite.
