Pugneys Light Railway is a charming volunteer-run miniature railway set at the edge of Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield. It's a delightful experience for children of all ages, offering short scenic rides on a single-track line pulled by a miniature steam engine. The route winds through the park with lovely views over the lake and tree-lined sections, passing through a mock level crossing and stopping at two stations.
At just £2.50 per person (Under 12 months go free), it's an affordable family outing that combines railway heritage with the wider attractions of the country park. The experience is enhanced by the heritage details at the main station, including vintage adverts evoking travel across the UK. Beyond the railway itself, families can explore the park's playground, take a walk around the lake to spot water birds, visit the café, and enjoy ice cream - making it easy to spend a full afternoon here.
