About this place
Ossett Library sits inside the Town Hall on Market Place, a handsome building that gives the whole visit a bit of character. It is free to join, fine free, and open to anyone who lives, works, studies or visits the Wakefield district. There is no need for ID to sign up, and many services can be accessed from home as well.
Inside you will find thousands of books covering all ages, from toddlers through to teenagers, plus a dedicated Local Studies room that is well worth a visit if you have any interest in local or family history. Computers with internet access are available (pre-booking is advised), and there is free Wi-Fi, printing and scanning facilities, and a programme of weekly activities. Staff are notably patient and helpful, whether you need a hand joining up, printing a document from your phone, or tracking down a piece of local history.
The library is open Monday to Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am to 5:00pm, and on Saturday from 9:30am to 1:00pm. It is closed on Thursdays and Sundays. The building has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, an accessible toilet with induction loop, and cycle parking nearby with a borrowable lock and mini repair kit on site.
