Oakwell Hall & Country Park

Oakwell Hall is a 17th-century manorial house with restored gardens and a country park, run by Kirklees Museums and Galleries. The hall itself is open weekends and gives you a real sense of how people lived centuries ago, with original features and informative displays throughout. The gardens are well maintained, and the surrounding country park has scenic walking routes including a figure-of-eight trail, making it good for a family stroll or bringing the dog along.

The whole site is free to visit (donations welcome), with free parking right outside. There's a gift shop and cafe on site, though it's worth checking opening times before you go. The hall and facilities are wheelchair accessible, so it's easy to get around. Families seem to love it for combining a bit of history with outdoor space, and it's the kind of place where you can spend a couple of hours without it feeling rushed.
