About this place

Kirklees Light Railway, now operating as Whistlestop Valley, is a narrow gauge heritage railway and family adventure park in Clayton West, near Huddersfield. The train ride itself takes you through the West Yorkshire countryside, and the tunnel on the route is said to be the longest on any narrow gauge railway in the country. It is genuinely more than just a train trip out.

Beyond the railway, there is a good spread of things to keep children busy throughout the day, including a bouncing pillow, a small game train ride, and indoor picnic areas for when the weather turns. The on-site café and shop are well worth a visit, and the pizza is popular enough that it pays to order early before the queues build up.

The site is wheelchair accessible, with accessible parking and entrance, and dogs are welcome too. It does get busier as the day goes on, so arriving earlier gives you a more relaxed start. Themed events run throughout the year, with birthday party packages and annual passes also available if you find yourself wanting to come back.
