Hidden Gem Coffee Shop is a proper little find, tucked away inside the garden centre at Heaton Park. It sits within a walled garden setting and has grown into a collection of spaces: a light-filled glasshouse café, a terrace just outside the door, greenhouse seating among the plants, and outdoor tables in the garden. The whole place has a calm, unhurried feel that is genuinely hard to come by.
The food and drink are taken seriously here. Coffee is freshly ground to order, and the tea selection is, frankly, too long to list. The cakes are all homemade, organic, and baked daily on site, with generous portions that do not hold back. A new homemade food menu is also on the way, with pies, soups, and seasonal specials made from local ingredients.
While you are here, keep an eye out for the ancient grape vine that has been growing within these walled gardens for over 45 years. She is a genuine talking point and well worth a look. The café is also dog friendly, which makes it a natural stop if you are walking in Heaton Park.
The venue is wheelchair accessible throughout, with an accessible entrance, seating, and toilets. It is open every day, with slightly earlier starts at weekends from 9:30am. It suits families, dog walkers, and anyone who wants a proper sit-down rather than a quick takeaway.
Check the venue website for tickets, opening times and updates.
