Wild Things Performing Arts CIC has been running drama classes for children since 2008, founded by actor and mum Nancy as a direct response to the pressures placed on children to conform and achieve in narrow ways. The ethos here is refreshingly different: rather than pushing kids towards a fixed idea of success, Wild Things celebrates individuality, weirdness, and genuine self-expression through theatre. Classes cover acting, movement, and storytelling, with children working together in a collaborative, supportive setting.
There are also holiday clubs and community projects alongside the regular weekly sessions, so there are plenty of ways to get involved throughout the year. Wild Things runs classes across several locations including Saddleworth, Hulme, and Rishworth, with the main base at Gatehead Mill in Delph, Oldham.
They also run sessions for younger children from birth to four years old, including First Steps into Music and Movers, Shakers and Storymakers, so siblings of different ages can often both find something suitable. This is a good fit for children who might not thrive in more traditional, results-driven activities, as well as those who simply love performing. The community feel is central to everything Wild Things does, and that comes through clearly in how the classes are run.
