Shadow Puppet Workshop

Step behind the scenes of one of Leeds' most iconic cinemas for a creative summer workshop combining art, storytelling and cinema history.

During this interactive Shadow Puppet Workshop, children will discover how light and shadow bring stories to life. They'll enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the historic projection room, learn how film projection works and explore the fascinating role that light and shadows have played in cinema over the years.

After exploring the cinema, participants will get creative by designing and building their own shadow puppet theatre, experimenting with characters, storytelling and simple animation techniques to create their own mini performance.

Part of Hyde Park Picture House's No Strings On Me: Cinema's Living Puppet season, this unique workshop offers a brilliant mix of creativity, history and hands-on fun for older children.
