Zucco

Zucco is a family-run Italian restaurant on Meanwood Road, founded by brothers Michael and Rosario Leggiero and now increasingly run by the next generation of the family. The menu is built around sharing plates, with the idea being that you order four to seven dishes between two people, working your way through a mix of pizzette, fresh seafood, meat and pasta.

The food draws on southern Italian roots but takes influence from across the whole country, and the menu shifts with the seasons and what's available fresh, so there's nearly always something new alongside the well-loved regulars.

The atmosphere is cosy and the staff are known for being genuinely warm and helpful, particularly when it comes to guiding you through the menu and suggesting what to order. It's a small restaurant, so booking ahead is a good idea, though counter seats are sometimes available on the day.

Families are welcome, and the restaurant has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilets and seating. Monday is the only day they're closed; Tuesday to Thursday lunch runs 12 to 2pm with evenings from 5:30 to 9:30pm, Friday and Saturday evenings go on until 10:30pm, and Sunday is open straight through from 12 to 8:30pm. For parties of six or more, a 10% discretionary service charge is added, and a card hold of £15 per person is taken at the time of booking.
