Temple Newsam is a magnificent Elizabethan house set within 1,400 acres of parkland, just outside Leeds. Inside, you'll find one of the finest collections of furniture, art and silver in the country, with rooms that feel like stepping back in time. The house is a genuine maze of corridors, staircases and period rooms, which children often find fascinating to explore. There's also a working Home Farm on the grounds where you can see traditional breeds and learn about historical farming practices, making it a good day out for families with a mix of indoor and outdoor interests.
Whether you're visiting on a sunny day for the expansive parkland and farm, or a rainy one when the house interiors become the main draw, there's plenty to keep families entertained for half a day or more. The grounds are well maintained with clear pathways, and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Young children will enjoy the farm, whilst older children interested in history and design will get a lot out of the house. Free parking and wheelchair access make it accessible for all families.

- A bag or backpack for carrying belongings, and a camera to capture the grand architecture
- Wellies or waterproof boots if visiting after rain, as the parkland can be muddy
