About this place

Sunny Bank Mills Gallery sits within a beautifully restored Victorian mill complex in Farsley, Leeds, which has been in the same family since 1829. The gallery is the heart of the arts programme here, with exhibitions, studio spaces, workshops and events running throughout the year. Even on a quiet week with no special event on, there is plenty to see as you wander through the space.

Alongside the gallery you will find an on-site tea room, a gallery shop, and a remarkable art materials shop called Scrap. The wider mill site is something of a labyrinth, with dozens of retail and leisure businesses to discover, so it is easy to spend a whole afternoon here. There is also a Museum and Archive on site that covers the history of the mills and the local community.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and is closed on Mondays. There is off-street parking on site, and the building has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible parking and accessible toilets. Staff are friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole visit feel relaxed.

This is a genuinely good outing for families, with enough variety to keep everyone interested. The mix of fine art, craft and installations means there is something to catch the eye at every turn, and the broader site gives children and adults alike room to roam.
