Otley Chevin Country Park is a sprawling nature reserve offering brilliant woodland walks and open moorland with sweeping views across Wharfedale and beyond. The park has a network of trails suitable for all abilities, from gentle 10-minute strolls to longer 2-hour hikes, so you can tailor your visit to suit your children's ages and energy levels.
Younger children will enjoy spotting the sculptures dotted through the reserve and exploring the rock outcrops and ponds, whilst older kids might appreciate the more challenging terrain and the chance to spot planes approaching Leeds from the southern viewpoint. The park is genuinely dog-friendly, making it ideal if you want to combine family time with keeping a pet entertained. The woodland paths can be muddy and rough underfoot, particularly after rain, so sturdy footwear is essential.

- Arrive early on weekends or holidays, as the main car parks can fill up quickly. There are alternative entrances with roadside parking if needed
- Mix your walk between woodland paths and open moorland sections for variety in scenery and shade
- Plan shorter routes (30 mins to 1 hour) with younger children rather than attempting the full 2-hour circuits, and take breaks at the sculptures or viewpoints
- Visit in dry weather if possible, as the rough ground becomes very slippery and muddy after rain, making it less suitable for small legs
- Combine your visit with a trip to Otley town centre, which is just a short walk or drive away and has cafes and shops for refreshments
