Lincoln Zoo is a well-maintained wildlife park offering families a genuinely engaging day out with a range of animals and interactive experiences throughout the day. The zoo features regular animal demonstrations and feeding times, and many enclosures allow you to get up close to the animals, including a walk-through aviary and the popular Endeavour building where butterflies fly around you.
The spacious, flat layout makes it easy to navigate with pushchairs and younger children, and the staff are genuinely knowledgeable and friendly. It works well for children from toddlers upwards, though older children tend to get more from the hands-on encounters and demonstrations. The site has good facilities including a tea room where you can take a break, and plenty of seating areas if you'd prefer to bring a picnic.

Facilities
What to bring
- Sun cream and a hat, as much of the zoo is outdoors with some areas lacking shade
- Waterproof jacket and wellies or sturdy waterproof shoes for muddy paths after rain
- A refillable water bottle and snacks for between demonstrations, as the tea room gets busy mid-afternoon
- Comfortable walking shoes with good grip, as you'll be doing plenty of walking on outdoor paths
- A small rucksack to carry belongings while keeping your hands free for children and pushchairs
Top tips
- Check the daily schedule of demonstrations and feeding times when you arrive, then plan your route to see the ones your children are most interested in before crowds build up
- Arrive early or visit mid-week if you can, as the zoo gets busier in the afternoon and queues for the tea room build up after 2pm
- Take a photo of the map at the entrance or pick one up, as signage could be clearer in some areas and it's easy to miss parts of the zoo
- The walk-through areas and the Endeavour building with the butterfly enclosure are particularly good for younger children who want hands-on engagement rather than just viewing from a distance
- Allow extra time if visiting with pushchairs or very young children, as the flat ground is accessible but there's still plenty of walking involved
