Summer Reading Challenge 2026: Read to the Beat

Make reading part of your summer adventures with the Summer Reading Challenge 2026 at Leeds Libraries!

This year's theme, Read to the Beat, celebrates the connection between stories and music, encouraging children to explore books inspired by rhythm, creativity and songs from around the world.

Children aged 4–11 can sign up for free at any Leeds public library, choose their own reading goals and borrow as many books as they like. Along the way they'll collect a range of free rewards, including:

📚 A bookmark

⭐ Collector's cards

🏅 A wooden medal when they complete the challenge

As well as the reading challenge itself, libraries across Leeds will be running a fantastic programme of free and low-cost family events throughout the summer, including craft sessions, workshops, performances, dance, music and coding activities.

Whether your child loves picture books, graphic novels, non-fiction or chapter books, this is a brilliant way to keep them reading, learning and having fun over the school holidays.
