About this place
Hollins Vale Local Nature Reserve is a surprisingly beautiful green space in Unsworth, tucked between a motorway and industrial surroundings. It's the kind of place you might nearly turn back from before realising what's there, but once you're in, it's genuinely lovely. The reserve is open around the clock, every day of the year, so you can visit whenever suits you.
The wildlife here is a real draw. Expect ponds, streams, dragonflies in abundance, plenty of bird life, and all manner of insects. A well-worn path follows the river through the reserve, making for a pleasant, easy walk that's suitable for families with children. It tends to be quiet, with the odd friendly dog walker for company.
The reserve is clearly well looked after. Litter is regularly cleared, and it shows, which makes a real difference when you're out with kids. It has a genuinely cared-for feel that you don't always find in free green spaces like this.
